Who dey think gonna beat them Wildcats?

Posted by: TT

Morning Wildcat fans.  How bout them Saints, or rather, “Who Dat”?  I had no idea what this chant really meant until I googled it…ye olde Wikipedia tells us that “Who dat” is short for “Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?”  The Saints’ chant came from a 1937 song which was based on a chant used first in minstrel and vaudeville shows in the late 1800′s and later adopted by New Orleans jazz musicians in the 1920′s and 30′s.  Kentucky fans may be more familiar with the “Who dey who dey” Bengals chant, which is merely a spinoff of the Bayou original.  Turns out it is a pretty popular chant for colleges in the South, most notably the Southern University Jaguars (“Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Jags?”).

So, “who dey think gonna beat them Wildcats?”  John Clay is wondering the same thing this morning.  The Cats looked pretty unbeatable on Saturday, but one has to wonder when the other shoe will drop.  Maybe it’s just some lingering cynicism from the past two seasons and He-Who-Brought-Us-Great-Shame?  Personally, I think the greatest chance for a loss is either at home vs. Tennessee (will Cal wear the Blue Blazer?) or at Vandy (stupid stage court…).  What do you guys think?  Can the Cats make it through the regular season unblemished?

I like Vandy’s chances at either place.

I don’t know about the either place…Memorial gym is all kinds of messed up though so that’s a possibility…
